River of Mnemosyne

These are the rules for the current River of Mnemosyne Challenge.

The Challenge

1. Create a story (in any narrative format) across nine (9) blog posts that encompass the nine (9) Muses this month.  Each participant may only submit one (1) entry for the challenge.  Your first post will be based on "Muse 1," your second post will be based on "Muse 2," (etc.) while telling a single, cohesive story.

2. You don't have to post all nine (9) Muses.  You can end your story at any time; after any Muse. To designate your ending, write a big "The End" at the end of your final entry.  However, the more Muses you do, the more your entry is worth (this can affect your voting score, below).

The Muses

3. The first Muse has been selected by the previous year's winner.  The subsequent Muses will be selected based on submissions.  The first person to link a blog post entry picks the second Muse.  The second person to link an entry (any entry) picks the third Muse, and so on.  In short, the first eight links dictate who picks Muses 2 through 9.
  • To submit a Muse, simply notify an admin with the Muse.
  • New Muses will post at 12:00 AM, GMT, no less than 24 hours after an admin receives the submitted Muse (no more than one Muse will post in a day).
4. Participants will link their blog entries per a linking widget.  We use a single link widget for the entire exercise, so participants must denote the Muse number of their specific entries each time they link.  Example:
  1. First Participant (Muse 1)
  2. Second Participant (Muse 1)
  3. First Participant (Muse 2)
  4. First Participant (Muse 3)
  5. Second Participant (Muse 2)
  6. Third Participant (Muse 1)
  7. and so on...
5. Do not skip Muses.  Do not post Muses out of order.  Do not combine Muses into one post.

6. Your posts for the first Muse can be linked beginning on February 2nd.

The Vote

7. Voting begins at 12:00 AM, GMT, on February 21st and ends at 12:00 AM, GMT, on February 27th.  You are voting on overall bodies of work, not individual posts.  If you do not vote, you cannot win.  Everyone who links a post for "Muse 1" AND "Muse 2" is eligible to vote, regardless if their overall entry is completed.

8. Completing a Muse adds bonus points to your final vote tally (the value of the bonus points is based on the number of participants).  In the event of a tie, the participant with the fewest Muses wins.  If still tied, the participant who linked their final Muse first wins.
    9. The winner will be announced on February 28th and will receive a "River of Mnemosyne" trophy to post on their blog.

If you aren't sure of something, ask an admin immediately.
